Splashdown Sunday

Today we headed to the Splashdown Waterpark for our Sunday boarders' activity. The bus ride was a bit long, however, to get there but it was definitely worth it! The teachers accompanying the trip were Miss Maden, Miss Paice, Mr Garcia (whose birthday was also today), and Mr Nelson.


As we got there, the kids then got changed into their swimming costumes and headed to the pools. There was a couple of different pools on the ground floor, whilst five of the slide rides were only accessible by going up a couple of floors of stairs.


There were also a lot of slides outside the main pool area - two rides in particular, called "The Vortex" and "The Screamer" which were particularly terrifying. Unsurprisingly, the majority of the kids had no problem going on these rides at all! For the littler kids that came on the trip, there were fortunately a huge amount of rides for them to go on - there was the "Mississippi Drifter" where they used round orange tyres/rings to float down mini rapids, and the "Colorado Coaster" was a bit of a bigger ride but still wasn't too fast or scary for some of the juniors.


The day ended up going so quickly that many of the children didn't want to leave at the end, even though it had been over three hours spent in the water park. A mars bar and water bottle for a quick treat was given out before heading back onto the bus for the hour and a half bus ride back to school.


This was definitely one of their more favourite activities and I'm sure they will be more than happy to go to Splashdown again!

Build a Burger Night

Last Wednesday's boarding house activity was an activity that we have never done before - "Build a burger". The dining tables were set up with all the ingredients such as tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, cheese, bacon, sauces, and pickles. Then, at 5:45, the juniors came in for the first round of making burgers whilst the seniors came at around 6:05.

There were also some prizes handed out to motivate the children to be as creative as they could with their burgers - whilst also still being able to eat them of course! There were prizes for the biggest burger, most aesthetically pleasing burger, and also the most inventive burger.

These prizes were given out to Archie (Yr 7), Ryan (Yr 7), and Lian (Yr 5) for their amazing creations!

Girls Sleepover Night

Wednesday night this week was another Year four Sleepover night!

During this week, the girls had been constantly telling me that they wanted it to be the sleepover night already and also asked me lots and lots of questions about what it was like on the girls' landing - which is understandable as many had not ever boarded before.

After showers and getting into their pyjamas, the Year fours gathered all their toys and blankets/duvets and settled down in the girls' Common room ready to watch "How to train your dragon". Mrs Roberts and myself then began the job of painting the girls' toenails in lots of different colours. Not surprisingly, the majority of the girls wanted to have lots and lots of sparkles on their feet.

Finally, at 8:30, the movie had finished and they had eaten all of their popcorn, and were ready to settle into their beds and go to sleep.

Year 4 Girls and Boys Sleepover

Thursday night last week was our first Year four sleepover night for both boys and girls.
To start the night off, the children went into Mrs Weir's classroom where a Scientist came to show them two hours of fun and interesting scientific experiments. These included making blue or fluorescent pink slime which they made from adding special chemicals and other ingredients. They also attempted to make a ping-pong ball fly around the room by using only a straw and their breath!


Next, the Scientist showed them what "dry ice", or carbon dioxide, looked like. He also let them touch just the very top of it - the 'mist' coming out of the top of the beaker - and also told them that this was what it felt like to be touching a cloud. However, it apparently just felt like nothing in their hands - it did look very impressive though!


The last activity that he did with them was showing them the effect of a Vortex on two lit candles. Then, all the children lined up to each have a go at trying to blow out the candles simply by using the Vortex. It actually proved extremely difficult as only three children managed to do it!


It was then time for the end of the night where the boys and girls headed up to the dorms where they all had showers, got into pyjamas, and watched a bit of a movie before heading to bed.
