Movie Night

Last Wednesday (the 24th of September), we conducted a massive movie night for all the All Hallow's boarders. Initially it was to be 'Build a burger' night, however we thought we would save that one for next week as a couple of the school dinners had been burgers this week.

The juniors (Years 3-6) watched "The Simpsons Movie" in St Bede's, whilst the seniors watched "The Invention of Lying" in the Junior Common Room. Both hilarious films, the kids were heard laughing from a mile away!

As the movies began, Mrs Roberts, Mr Gardiner, Miss Maden, Miss Martin, Mr Wheatley, and myself handed out glasses of lemonade and popcorn - fortunately there were both sweet and salty popcorn to choose from so that everybody was happy.

Though a more relaxed activity for this week, it was just what the boarders needed after a busy three weeks of the new school year!

Raft Building

Last Sunday (the 14th of September), the boarding children participated in a Raft building activity. They arrived in a field with some unfortunate wintry weather as a backdrop - however, it did little to dampen their spirits!

The boarders firstly had a little walk to get to a big tent which contained all the equipment that they needed to build their boats. Next, the organisers of the activity talked to them briefly about the types of things to wear - such as tracksuits and jumpers to keep them warm as the water was quite cold, and, so that they could take them off if they got wet.

Finally, it was time to begin constructing their rafts! Each group had a couple of big blue circular barrels that they had to use to make the boat float. They also had six poles which they laid over the barrels so that they could sit on them - they connected the barrels and poles with lots and lots of rope to make it extra sturdy.

Then, the excitement began as the kids were now ready to board their vessels! The instructors put the rafts up at the beginning of the river onto the top of two ramps so that the children could get on safely - they also explained to them the best ways to control their raft by paddling. It was then pushed down the ramps and travelled off along the river. Some trouble began as Tatiana (Year 4) accidentally fell off and couldn't get back on the boat! However, rescue came in the form of one of the Year 8 Spanish boys who dived in and helped her back onto the raft.

Everybody thoroughly seemed to enjoy it, as every single boarder jumped into the river at the end of their raft ride - even though the water was apparently very cold!

Will update again soon,

Hazelgrove Tournament

Just a quick blog entry today to highlight the amazing talents of a couple senior girl boarders for their amazing win last week at the Hazelgrove Hockey Tournament!

The girls who competed in the team were Rosie, Megan, Patricia, Danae, Alexandra, Rocio, and Blanca - all Year 7 students.

Congratulations girls! All the teachers and students are very proud of your achievements :)

Pizza Night

Pizza making up in the school's forest was last Wednesday's boarders' activity - an activity met with a lot of excitement and a lot of hunger!

Mrs Roberts and Mr Veale began the preparations by rolling out all the fresh pizza dough which took about an hour and a half to get them ready for the boarders as there is always an influx of students wanting to board on Activity night.

Next, the juniors started things off with myself, Miss Martin, and Mr Wheatley helping to hand out the ingredients - tomato paste, pepperoni, ham, tomatoes, and cheese - whilst also keeping an eye out that no pizzas ended up on the floor. However, as the seniors began to make their pizzas, a couple did actually end up on the ground! Just before Gregor, John, and Inigo (all Year eight students) were taking their pizzas over to Mr Veale so he could put them in the wood-fired pizza oven, disaster struck and they were left pizza-less...
Fortunately, Mrs Roberts - being prepared as ever - had just the right amount of dough left over for them to make three new ones. It was safe to say that the hungry Year Eights were extremely happy!

It was again beautiful weather and once the kids had finished their pizzas, they were free to run around and explore the forest before heading back down at around 7:30 to begin their bedtime routines.

Will update again soon,

Miss Donato :)

Sunday's activities

Our first Sunday with all the boarders turned out to be a very relaxing day made up of outdoor activities, forest school shenanigans - with a bit of added chocolates and marshmallows.

As the weather was extremely nice for a change, the morning was dubbed 'free time' for all boarders, meaning that they could choose to either play tennis or football, ride bikes around the grounds, go swimming, play the Wii, or just relax and watch a film.

After that, we headed into the dining room for a delicious roast lunch - we are extremely grateful to the kitchen staff who made this happen as it was absolutely delicious!

Mr and Mrs Roberts (formerly Miss Palmer, just in case 'Mrs Roberts' sounds unfamiliar) then rounded up all the boarders and headed up into the Forest School. Once up there, a fire was lit which the kids all sat around so that they could receive the deliciousness that is S'mores - for those that haven't had them before, S'mores are chocolate biscuits with marshmallow in the middle that are then cooked over the fire so that the chocolate and marshmallow melt!

It's safe to say that everybody extremely enjoyed their time in the woods, not only because of the chocolate and marshmallow, but they also had time to run around and explore - which is what kids do best!

Miss Donato :)

Welcome back :)

Hello all and welcome back to another school year at All Hallows School!

I hope everybody had lovely summer holidays and that they were able to relax a bit before the new school term began again - I definitely enjoyed the break!
However, it's not been bad at all returning to All Hallows as we have gotten a lot of new boarders joining us this term, as well as some new buildings within the school - such as the cricket pavilion on the Front field and the design studio and art room which is located where the library used to be. So with all of our new additions it's bound to be an exciting Michaelmas term!
Our Wednesday night boarders activity began last night where we played 'Capture the flag' out on the Front field due to the lovely weather we were blessed with.
Mr Roberts - the newly married husband to Miss Palmer - was in charge of the game and ensured that all rules were followed as it can be a very controversial game thanks to the tagging that is involved. Thus, all the kids seemed to really enjoy the couple of games that we played and enjoyed cereal bar (which we had after the boarders' activities) all the more.

Will update again soon with some pictures,
Miss Donato :)
