For the last Sunday of the term, the boarders participated in a more 'chilled-out' activity. The teachers set up a couple of different Christmas activities in the schools' art room during the afternoon, so that the children may have something nice and decorative to take home with them this week. These activities included making gingerbread houses, Christmas tree decorations, and candle-making.
The gingerbread houses proved to be the most difficult to create as the icing was sometimes not strong enough to hold all the walls up - however, the solution was simple: apply more and more icing! Consequently, they ended up looking like very, VERY snow-covered gingerbread houses. It was also nice for the children to be able to paint their own Christmas tree decorations - they could write a unique message and thus keep it for years to come as something special that they'd worked hard in creating.
These weeks have gone by so quickly this term, and I believe the kids (as well as the teachers) are definitely starting to feel a bit run-down, so this activity was a nice, relaxing one to do.
Miss Donato :)
